2015 Golden Disc Awards – New Artist Award
After debuting with the single “Happiness” in August 2014, Red Velvet gained their first award, the New Artist award, at the 29th Golden Disc Awards on January 15, 2015. The ceremony was held for two days at the Master Card Center in Beijing, China, on January 15 and January 16, 2015. When the group won the New Artist award, the members showed their gratitude for everyone who had supported them and helped their dream came true. During their acceptance speech, the leader of Red Velvet, Irene, said “First of all, thank you Lee Soo-man teacher, CEO Kim Young-min, vice president Han Se-min, vice president Nam Se-young, Director Cho Sung-hwan, Yoo Young-jin who wrote “Happiness” song, and everyone who supported us. Thank you very much.”
They also showed their gratitude for their managers, staff, and their families who were always there with them. Seulgi added, “To our parents in Korea and Canada, we love you so much. We will become more lovely daughters.”
During the 29th Golden Disc Awards, Red Velvet performed their debut single “Happiness,” wearing the colorful dress from their music video.
2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards – Best Dance Performance (Female Group)
On December 2, 2015, the 17th Mnet Asian Music Awards ceremony was held at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong. The ceremony was organized by CJ E&M through its music channel, Mnet. During the 17th annual Mnet Asian Music Awards, Red Velvet was awarded Best Dance Performance – Female Group for their hit song “Ice Cream Cake.” The group won against other nominees such as AOA’s “Heart Attack,” EXID’s “Ah Yeah,” Girl’s Day’s “Ring My Bell,” SISTAR’s “Shake It,” and 4minute’s “Crazy.”
In their acceptance speech, Irene said, “Mr. Lee So-man, the SM Family, and the managers and staff who always suffer with us, thank you so much. And to the fans who always cheer us on, thank you. Red Velvet will work harder to show you even better performances from now on.“
25th Seoul Music Awards 2016 – Bonsang Awards
Red Velvet once again proved the group’s popularity by winning Bonsang Awards or Main Awards at the 25th Seoul Music Awards. The annual music award event was held on January 14, 2016, at the Olympics Gymnastics Arena at Olympic Park in Seoul. At the 25th Seoul Music Awards ceremony, there were 12 artists, including solo singers and groups: EXID, Red Velvet, Taeyeon, VIXX, Yoon Mi Rae, Zion.T, BTS, EXO, APink, SISTAR, BIGBANG, and SHINee.
The members showed their gratitude for those who helped them in their acceptance speech. Irene said, “Firstly, last year, around this time, I think we received the rookie award here, on this stage, and we were very happy to be given the Bonsang Awards this year.” The older member also thanks Lee Soo-man, CEO Kim Young-min, the SM Family, manager, and the staff, as well as the fans who always cheer them on and give them strength.
To enliven the annual music ceremony, Red Velvet performed their powerful “Dance Break” and their hit song “Dumb Dumb.”
2016 Gaon Chart Music Awards – Hot Performance of the Year
On February 17, 2016, The ‘Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards,’ also known as The Gaon Chart Music Awards, was back for its fifth year. The Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards is a South Korean major annual music awards show that is held by the national music record chart, Gaon Chart. The event took place at Seoul’s Olympic Park, Seoul, South Korea. The annual music award ceremony gave prizes to the year’s biggest chart toppers, as well as showcased some of the most popular tracks from the previous year with impressive performances. During the ceremony, Red Velvet was awarded Hot Performance of the Year – Female.
Red Velvet thanked their fans and SMTown, who always support them, in their acceptance speech. Irene expressed her gratitude by saying, “Firstly, we want to thank teacher Lee Soo-man who produced Red Velvet, and to the SM Family that is headed by Lee Soo-man, thank you so much. It is our first time at the Gaon Chart Music Awards and the members were expectant. Being able to receive an award, we are very happy. Thank you so much. And to our fans, thank you very much. Since 2014 and until now, please look after us. Thank You.”
Red Velvet gave a very amazing and powerful performance with their hit songs “Automatic” and “Ice Cream Cake.”
2017 Melon Music Awards – Top 10 Artist
The 9th Melon Music Awards was held on December 2, 2017, at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea. The ceremony was organized by kakaoM (a kakao company), through its online music store, Melon. It marked as the ninth annual ceremony in the show’s history. During the 9th annual ceremony, only artists who released music between November 20, 2016, and October 25, 2017, were eligible to be nominated for awards. The winners were selected by calculating the number of downloads, streams, and weekly Melon Popularity Award votes achieved by each artist.
Red Velvet received an award in the Top 10 Artists category. There were other groups and singers who also earned the same awards: BIGBANG, EXO, TWICE, Wanna One, WINNER, BTS, Bolbbalgan4, IU, and Heize. As always, the leader, Irene, and the other Red Velvet members were really grateful to all of their fans, Lee Soo-man, their managers, staff, and also other SM Families who supported them so that they could achieve the awards. During the 9th Melon Music Awards, Red Velvet satisfied their fans and viewers with amazing performances of their hit songs “Peek-a-boo” and “Red Flavor.” The members of Red Velvet wore red and black dresses which made them looked mature, but adorable.
